University of Pennsylvania Scholarships

1. State Grant Scholarship

Penn’s undergraduate award-based financial fund program meets 100% of established financial need with awards and work-study funds. Since 2013, Penn State has taken part in the State Grant Distance Education Pilot program which accepted students enrolled for more than 50% Web and Hybrid semester coursework to receive state grant funding at the same level as their on-campus counterparts. The pilot program ends with the spring semester and distance education was approved to be included in the PA State Grant program.

Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines

The basic eligibility requirements reviewed by PHEAA when it receives an application are:

Meets criteria for financial need.

Enrolled on at least a half-time basis in an Associate degree or Bachelor’s Degree program and does not already have a Bachelor's degree.

U.S. high school graduate or the beneficiary of a G.E.D.

Pennsylvania resident (domiciliary).

Met the application deadline by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by May 1st of the academic year the student is attending.

2. The Maguire Scholarship

The Maguire College Scholars Program has been founded at the University of Pennsylvania since 2013. Through the Kind support of the Maguire Foundation, every academic year at Penn, chosen students are favored through a Maguire College Scholars scholarship. The scholarship is intended to support students who have graduated from listed Philadelphia area high schools, have been an active participant in extra-curricular activities and community service during high school.

Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines

To be eligible for the Maguire College Scholars Program at Penn, students must meet the following criteria:

Graduate from a Maguire Scholars Program High School.

Earn at least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent in high school.

Engage in community service and/or extra-curricular activities.

Complete the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov).

Be offered admission to the University of Pennsylvania.

Have demonstrated financial need.

No additional application is required to apply to the Maguire College Scholars Program at Penn, and students are selected by the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Services.

To be eligible for federal aid, you must file a FAFSA, make satisfactory academic progress, not be in default on a Federal loan, and not owe a refund on a Federal Pell Grant or Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). International students are generally not entitled to federal funding.

To be eligible for institutional funds, you must complete a CSS Profile and the Penn Financial Aid Supplement (PFAS), as well as submit the required federal income tax return information.
