The University of Plymouth is the first university in the world to win the award of The Social Enterprise Mark in recognition of its function of a genuine social enterprise, caring for communities, and protecting the planet. The University also achieved the award in 1994 for widening access to education in rural communities. The University of Plymouth specializes in enterprising and has world-renowned expertise in Marine Science and Engineering, Medicine, Earth Sciences, and Sustainability, among others. In August 2008, the Faculty of Education moved to the new Rolle Building from the Rolle College campus in Exmouth. Both the municipality of Exmouth and its students disapproved of the choice. In addition to a push to keep the campus open, there were multiple protest marches. The Roland Levinsky Building, the university's premier arts, cultural, and educational centre, was finished in 2007 and is one of the more than 20 structures on campus. It is situated across from the Drake Circus Shopping Centre, to the south of the university campus.
