University of Poitiers History

The University of Poitiers was founded in the year 1431 by King Charles VII and Pope Eugene IV in Poitiers, France. The university was temporarily closed during the French Revolution and reopened in 1796. It is one of the oldest universities in France and Europe.

The University of Poitiers comprises of 14 departments, institutes, and schools offering a wide mix of programs in subjects like Law and Social Sciences, Economics, Basic and Applied Sciences, Literature, Languages, Human Sciences, Sports, Medicine and Pharmacy, Business, and Engineering.

The University of Poitiers also has dedicated research units and laboratories conducting research and development activities in the fields of Automatics, Chemistry and Materials, and Physics. A Center for Studies on International Legal Cooperation is a collaborative research unit between the university and National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).

University of Poitiers Campuses

The University of Poitiers has three major sites. The first one is in the town centre, second is the main campus and the third is the training area of the Futuroscope complex. The university offers a wide range of sports and recreational activities along with numerous student associations to choose from.

The University of Poitiers also offers golf facilities, north of the campus. Apart from this, campus houses faculty buildings, libraries, learning centers, and state-of-the-art lecture theatres.

University of Poitiers’ Institut d'Administration des Entreprises de Poitiers or IAE is a leading and highly ranked French Business School which has received Training/Research” QUALICERT Certification of Services for three years consecutively. The school teaches and trains over 2,200 students or company employees each year across 20 university departments.

University of Poitiers’ research teams has won accolades at various collaborative research projects both nationally and at international levels.
