University of Science and Technology Beijing History

University of Science and Technology Beijing was established in the year 1952 by the merger of five colleges. The university was then called Beijing Industrial Institute of Steel and Iron which was later renamed to Beijing Steel and Iron Institute in 1960. The university’s present name was adopted in 1988.

University of Science and Technology Beijing comprises of 16 schools offering 48 bachelors programs, 121 masters, 73 doctoral programs, and 16 postdoctoral research spheres. The university is renowned for its programs in Ferrous Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Processing Engineering, Mechanical Design and Theory, and Mining Engineering.

University of Science and Technology Beijing also offers programs in as Control Theory and Control Engineering, Thermal Engineering, and Mechatronic Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Environmental Engineering, and Civil Engineering in addition to Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and English.

University of Science and Technology Beijing is spread over an area of 557,858 metre square in Haidian District in the city of Beijing, China. The university provides dormitories, student clubs, health centre, libraries, and other recreational and leisure facilities to students.

University of Science and Technology Beijing’s USTB Gymnasium was a purpose built gym for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. The gym hosted competitions like Judo and Taekwondo. Post the Summer Olympics, the gym provides physical education, fitness training, swimming teaching, and aquatic park, and hosts athletic contests.
