The University of Southern California is a private research university established in 1880 with its Main Campus in the city zone of Los Angeles. University of Southern California is the oldest private research university in California. While the Main Campus can be found in the focal point of Los Angeles, the three teaching hospitals and Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy are gathered together on a different Health Sciences grounds toward the north east.
The University of Southern California is a global center for arts, technology and international business. It is home to the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and 21 exceptional academic schools and units. USC’s Health Sciences campus houses renowned specialized care and research in cancer, stem cell and regenerative medicine, orthopedics and sports medicine. The university is the largest private sector employer in the city of Los Angeles, responsible for $8 billion annually in economic activity in the region.
The University of Southern California is one of a small number of research institutions on which our country depends for a steady stream of new knowledge, art and technology. USC has nearly $700 million in annual research expenditures, is ranked first in the nation among all universities in the size of its computer science research program, and has the largest graduate program in science, engineering and health of all private research universities.
For the 2014–15 academic year, there were 18,740 students enrolled in four-year undergraduate programs.USC also has 23,729 graduate and professional students in a number of different programs, including business, law, engineering, social work, and medicine.
USC maintains a strong tradition of innovation and entrepreneurship, with alumni having founded companies such as Salesforce, Lucasfilm, Myspace, Tinder, Qualcomm, Box and many more. As of 2014, the university has produced the fourth largest number of billionaire alumni out of all undergraduate institutions in the world.
