Know moreIn 2025, PUCMM became the first Dominican university to participate in the prestigious eMerge Americas conference in Miami, an event focused on innovation and technology. The university showcased projects such as an AI-powered flight delay prediction app and a citrus greening early detection system.
In 2023, PUCMM secured seven research project awards under the national research fund Fondocyt. These included studies on anti-obesity compounds from ginger and turmeric, sustainable construction materials from recycled debris, and AI-based solar energy monitoring systems.
In 2016, PUCMM became the first university in the Dominican Republic to receive an international patent. The patent was granted for a groundbreaking nanotube coating technology developed by Dr. Fabrice Piazza and his research team.
PUCMM introduced its annual "Invierte en Ti" (Invest in Yourself) career fair in 2014, which quickly became one of the most impactful employment and networking events in the country. The fair connects students and alumni with major national and international companies, offering internship and job opportunities in diverse sectors.
In another 2023 project, PUCMM researchers investigated the transformation of construction and demolition debris into masonry mortar. This innovative approach aims to create a more sustainable construction material by recycling waste, reducing environmental impact, and providing a cost-effective alternative for the local building industry.
Also in 2023, under the same Fondocyt program, PUCMM researchers initiated projects on solar-assisted refrigeration systems. These systems explore the use of solar energy to power air conditioning and refrigeration units, using environmentally friendly refrigerants to reduce carbon emissions.
In 2013, PUCMM’s Nanoscience Laboratory, led by Dr. Fabrice Piazza, developed a groundbreaking invention: a process to coat clusters of carbon nanotubes with nanocrystals of silicon carbide and carbon. This technique greatly improved the stability and electron emission properties of the nanotubes, making them more effective for applications in flat-panel displays, X-ray tubes, electron microscopes, and even biomedical devices.
