University of Turku History and background:
The University of Turku is a public university which was established in the year 1920 and is located in Turku, southwestern Finland. The first site of the University of Turku was in the center of the city. Later on, a new campus was built in the 1950s on Ryssänmäki. The University was made a public institution in the year 1974 and is now considered as the second largest university in the country as measured by student enrollment.

University of Turku Programs, Courses, and Schools:
The University of Turku comprises seven faculties; Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Faculty of Social Sciences, Turku School of Economics, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Humanities, and the Faculty of Law. Each faculty offers a range of courses in English and students are often able to combine studies from different faculties. The university offers numerous programs for Master’s, Bachelor’s, as well as Exchange students. The University of Turku consists of a Graduate School which offers doctoral programmes in all disciplines. Each doctoral candidate has a personal supervisor and the progress of the doctoral dissertation is followed regularly. 

University of Turku Campuses:
The University of Turku has overall three campuses; Turku Campus, Pori Campus, and Rauma Campus. The Rauma Campus comprises the Department of Teacher Education of the University of Turku. All the department buildings are situated on the same hill. The Department of Teacher Education and the Rauma normaalikoulu Teacher Training School are located on the same court, and several facilities are in joint use. The Turku Campus is located close to the city centre and the Aura River nearby the other higher education institutions, Turku Science Park companies, and the Turku University Hospital. The Pori units of the University of Turku are located in the University Consortium of Pori, which is a multidisciplinary science and art community of 2,000 students, 170 experts functioning as a network of four universities. In addition to units of the University of Turku, the University Consortium of Pori is home for units of Aalto University, Tampere University of Technology, and the University of Tampere. 

The University of Turku also consists of many research centres and units; Brahea Centre of the University of Turku, Centre for Language and Communication Studies, Finnish Centre for Astronomy with ESO, Research Unit for the Sociology of Education, RUSE, Turku Centre for Biotechnology, Turku PET Centre, Turku Centre for Computing Science, TUCS.

University of Turku Achievements:
The Ministry of Education and Culture has granted Professor Christina Salmivalli the Finnish Science Award which is €100,000. Turku School of Economics is part of the Finnish Education Evaluation Center (FINEEC) audited University of Turku. TSE is a member of the AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), which is a global accreditation agency committed to advancing the quality of management education worldwide and currently in the accreditation process. The University of Turku is the most international university in Finland and among the top 200 universities in the world according (THE Times Higher Education ranking). 95% of UTU alumni feel that they received a high-quality education and can utilize it in their work life. 

University of Turku USP:
The University of Turku provides various scholarship opportunities to the students on the basis of academic excellence. The tuition Fees does not apply to exchange students, regardless of their citizenship, nor to doctoral programmes. The higher education institutions in Turku established a joint sports service called CampusSport which has inspired students and staff to exercise and is becoming popular by the time. IT Services on campus are versatile and free to use. All students have access to the University computing services with no additional cost; 24/7 Computer Labs, wireless networks around the campus, electronic programmes that make studying easier, and what not.

University of Turku Notable Alumni:
The Notable alumni of the University of Turku consist of Sauli Niinisto who is the current president of Finland, Kaisa Sofia Matomaki prize winner of SASTRA Ramanujan 2016,  Paula Lehtomäki Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, and many more are there.
