In 2021, the University of Valparaíso celebrated its 40th anniversary as an autonomous institution. This milestone highlighted four decades of UV's dedication to providing quality education, fostering research, and contributing to the cultural and social development of the Valparaíso region and Chile as a whole.
In 2019, UV achieved its highest historical position in the América Economía university rankings, being ranked as the eighth-best university nationally. This recognition reflected UV's commitment to academic excellence and its growing reputation in the Chilean higher education landscape.
In 2015, UV's Institute of Physics and Astronomy received the Bochum 0.61-meter telescope from La Silla Observatory. By 2018, the university had modernized this telescope with remote-control capabilities, enhancing its utility for astrophysical research and student training. This project exemplifies UV's dedication to revitalizing scientific instruments for contemporary research purposes.
Since 2012, UV has partnered with Inria Chile to advance research in areas such as artificial intelligence, modeling, optimization, and cybersecurity. By 2024, this collaboration had resulted in over 30 joint R&D projects, including the formation of three Franco-Chilean associate teams, underscoring UV's role in international scientific cooperation.
