Uppsala University is a Public research university which was established in the year 1477. The university is located in Uppsala, Sweden. It is the oldest university in Sweden and all of the Nordic countries still in operation. The university belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities and to the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities.

Uppsala University comprises of nine faculties: Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Languages, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, Faculty of Law, Faculty of History and Philosophy. The Faculty of Law is the oldest one in the Nordic countries and existed before 1477. The university also comprises of The Uppsala Academic Hospital which functions as a teaching hospital for the Faculty of Medicine and the Nursing School. Ekonomikum is a building that is part of Uppsala University. The building, designed by Swedish modernist architect Peter Celsing, was completed in 1976 and housed departments for languages, humanities, and social sciences

Uppsala University comprises more than 47,600 students which include more than 34,900 undergraduates, 12,700 postgraduates, and 2,000 above doctoral students. The university has more than 4,000 faculty members. The student to faculty ratio is 11. 

Uppsala University ranks among the world's 100 best universities in several high-profile international rankings. The university comprises of Uppsala University Library, which holds about 5.25 million volumes of books and periodicals, manuscripts, music prints, maps and other graphic documents. The university also provides scholarships to all kinds of students on the basis of academic excellence.
