In 1946, Utica University was founded as Utica College, in Central New York. Initially, the school was situated in a section of downtown Utica called Oneida Square. In 1961, the Utica School moved to its current location on Burrstone Road. In 1995, the institution became a financially and legally independent institution.

A security desk is located in the lobby of each residence hall, which assists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to ensure the safety and identification of those entering and leaving the campus buildings.
