Utrecht University is a public university in Utrecht, the Netherlands which was established in 1636. It is one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands. The university also comprises University College Utrecht, along with the Utrecht School of Economics situated in the former Kromhout Kazerne.

Utrecht University comprises seven faculties and 25 research groups. The faculties include Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance, Faculty of Geosciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Faculty of Science.  There are three interfaculty units: University College Utrecht, University College Roosevelt, and COLUU Centre for Education and Learning. The two large faculties of Humanities and Law & Governance are situated in the inner city of Utrecht. The other five faculties and most of the administrative services are located in Utrecht Science Park De Uithof, a campus area on the outskirts of the city.

Utrecht University has more than 30,400 students. The university comprises more than 3,300 faculty members. The student to faculty ratio is 9. 

Utrecht University offers scholarship opportunities to the students on the basis of academic excellence. The university also provides the students with a Skills Lab, which helps the students in improving their writing skills, presenting themselves with confidence, language improvement, carrying out researches, digital skills, and also first Bachelor’s Degree programme students at the University are entitled to obtain a voucher that they can redeem for free participation in a course or workshop, or for individual coaching. The university is rated as the best university in the Netherlands by the Shanghai Ranking of World Universities 2013, and ranked as the 13th best university in Europe.

1. Utrecht Excellence Scholarships for International Students

The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship is offered to a number of outstanding prospective students, providing them an opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree in a selected number of fields at Utrecht University.

Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines

To be eligible for a Utrecht Excellence Scholarship, you must fulfill the following requirements:

• One must belong to the top 10% of their graduating class

• Applicants should hold a non-EU/EEA passport and must not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans

• Applicants should have completed their secondary school and/or Bachelor degree outside the Netherlands

• Candidates must have applied for an eligible international master’s program with a start date of 1 September.
