Valdosta State University History

Valdosta State University is located in Valdosta, Georgia. It is a private university that was founded in the year 1913. The university initially started as a women's college that offered two years of teacher preparation courses. The college was named South Georgia State Normal College. In 1922, the college started offering four-year courses to the students and was renamed the Georgia State Woman's College. This university is a part of the University System of Georgia. In 1993, the college was again renamed to what it is known as today Valdosta State University. The university today has a strength of 10,500 students enrolled in various programs and courses.
