The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has a large, modern and technology-oriented infrastructure, with its Vellore campus spread across approximately 372 acres. The campus includes specialised academic blocks, smart classrooms, advanced teaching and research laboratories, computing facilities, libraries, auditoriums and conference spaces. VIT’s 2023–24 quality report records 544 ICT-enabled classrooms and 13,679 computers dedicated to academic use, along with specialised facilities such as the Semiconductor Physics Laboratory, Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory, Two- and Four-Wheeler Chassis Laboratory and Single Crystal XRD Laboratory. The university also provides extensive residential and student-life infrastructure, including 32 hostel blocks, accommodation for more than 30,000 residents, dining facilities, Wi-Fi, study areas, gyms, swimming pools, sports facilities, pharmacies and first-aid centres. The campus has approximately 20 acres of outdoor and indoor sports facilities, while its auditoriums include the 1,800-seat Anna Auditorium and several smaller conference and event venues.

Student Support

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) provides comprehensive student support through its Office of Students’ Welfare, which assists students with personal, academic, social and extracurricular concerns. Each faculty member is assigned a group of students to provide guidance and help address their problems, while the Students’ Welfare Office coordinates with the Student Council, clubs, chapters, programme representatives and grievance mechanisms. VIT also provides dedicated disability support and welfare activities for day scholars and residential students.

Mental-health and wellbeing support is a major component of VIT’s student services. Its Counselling Division and Centre for VIT Happiness & Well-Being provide confidential one-to-one counselling, stress-management assistance, emotional support, life-skills programmes and wellbeing workshops. Residential counsellors are available in the hostels, and psychiatric services are also available on campus.

Student life at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is vibrant and diverse, with students encouraged to participate in academic, cultural, technical, sporting and social activities alongside their studies. Housing facilities (Accommodation)

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) provides extensive on-campus hostel accommodation at its Vellore campus. The campus has 32 hostel blocks—21 for boys and the remainder for girls—accommodating more than 30,000 residents annually. Students can choose from air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned single or shared rooms, furnished with beds, study tables, chairs, bookshelves, study lamps and cupboards.

Hostel facilities include Wi-Fi, dining and food outlets, study rooms, gyms, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, swimming pools, laundry services, pharmacies, first-aid centres, general stores and other everyday amenities. The hostels also have 24-hour security, supervisors, counsellors, maintenance staff and cleaning personnel, with security assistance available for students travelling to nearby railway stations and bus stops during late or early hours.

For the 2026–27 academic year, VIT states that its UG and PG programmes are residential, with students living within 65 km of the campus eligible to register as day scholars. Hostel allotment is conducted online on a first-come, first-served basis after payment of tuition fees, and students can select their preferred room and mess type. Overall, VIT's residential system provides students with a secure, well-equipped and community-oriented living environment integrated closely with campus academic and extracurricular life.

Student Safety

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) places strong emphasis on student safety through 24-hour security, surveillance and controlled access systems across its campus and hostels. The Vellore campus hostels have round-the-clock security personnel, while residential staff, wardens, supervisors and student counsellors are available to support residents. Security guards can also accompany students travelling to nearby railway stations and bus stops during late-night or early-morning hours.

VIT also uses CCTV surveillance, biometric access and security personnel to monitor campus and hostel areas. The university maintains an anti-ragging policy and committee, while student grievances and wellbeing concerns can be addressed through the appropriate welfare and counselling mechanisms. Female students have separate hostel facilities with controlled entry and dedicated security arrangements.

Students from the Vellore, Chennai, VIT-AP and VIT Bhopal campuses participate through the common recruitment process, with companies conducting online tests and interviews either physically or virtually.

VIT attracts a large number of Indian and international recruiters across technology, consulting, finance, engineering, manufacturing and other sectors. Major recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, Intel, eBay, Dell, Texas Instruments, Schneider Electric, DE Shaw, PayPal, Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, Qualcomm, Tata Motors, L&T, Bosch, TCS, Cognizant, Accenture, Wipro and Infosys.

The university's recruitment programme includes regular, Dream, Super Dream and Marquee offers, as well as internships. For the 2026 graduating batch, VIT reported 10,071 offers from 701 companies, including 3,333 Dream offers (₹6 lakh+), 2,292 Super Dream offers (₹10 lakh+) and 696 Marquee offers (₹20 lakh+). The highest reported package was ₹1 crore per annum. VIT also reported 4,051 industry internships, demonstrating the emphasis on practical industry exposure alongside full-time recruitment.
