Virginia Tech is a public research university located in Blacksburg, Virginia. Virginia Tech also has educational facilities in six regions statewide, and a study-abroad site in Switzerland. Through its Corps of Cadets ROTC  program, Virginia Tech is also designated as one of six senior military college in the country.It was established in 1872 and is now the commonwealth’s most comprehensive university as well as its leading research institution.

Virginia Tech comprises of various colleges: College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; College of Architecture and Urban Studies; Pamplin College of Business; College of Engineering; College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; College of Natural Resources and Environment; College of Science; The Graduate School; College of Veterinary Medicine and The School of Medicine and Research Institute. The university’s College of Engineering is well renowned. To graduate all the students at the university are required to complete the Curriculum for Liberal Education.  Engineering, Business and Management, Family and Consumer Sciences/Human Sciences, Biological and Biomedical Sciences and Social Sciences are the most popular majors at the university.

The university has a student population of over 32,000 students of which more than 25000 are enrolled in under graduate programs. The university has a student to faculty ratio of 14:1 and acceptance rate of 73%. The university manages a research portfolio of $504 million. It is mandatory for the freshmen to live on the campus. The Virginia Tech Corporate Research Centre, hosts more than 180 companies and helps to nurture future entrepreneurs.
