Step-by-Step Guide to Admission Requirements at Virginia Tech

To pursue a bachelor's degree at Virginia Tech, applicants should meet the following eight admission requirements:

High School Coursework: Completion of 18 units of high school coursework, including:

4 units of English

3 units of mathematics (including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II)

2 units of laboratory science (chosen from Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)

2 units of social science (one must be History)

3 additional academic units (foreign language is highly recommended)

4 elective units

Application Submission: Complete and submit the Common Application, which includes personal information, educational history, and extracurricular activities.

Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR): Applicants who have attended high school or been home-educated within the United States must submit an SRAR detailing all courses and grades from grades 9 through 11, as well as in-progress and planned coursework for grade 12.

Standardized Test Scores (Optional): Virginia Tech is test-optional through Fall 2028. Applicants may choose whether to submit SAT or ACT scores. If submitted, these scores will be considered as part of the holistic review process.

English Language Proficiency: Non-native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency through tests such as TOEFL or IELTS. Minimum score requirements may vary, so applicants should consult the university's admissions page for specifics.

Letters of Recommendation: While not required, applicants may submit letters of recommendation to provide additional insight into their academic and personal qualifications.

Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee is required upon submission. Fee waivers are available for eligible students facing financial hardships.
