Wilfrid Laurier University

Wilfrid Laurier University was founded in 1910. It is a public research university situated in the Waterloo, Brantford, Milton, Ontario, Canada. university. The university was named after Sir Wilfrid Laurier, who was the seventh president of Canada.

University History

In 1910 Wilfrid Laurier University was founded in Canada. In 1910, the Lutheran Synod was formed as a seminary, as the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary of Eastern Canada. In 1914, the seminary introduced non-theological courses under the name "the Waterloo College School". In 1924, the Waterloo College of Arts was formed. In 1925, Waterloo College of Arts was affiliated with the University of Western Ontario and started to offer honors degree programs in the field of arts. On November 1, 1973, the name was changed to Wilfrid Laurier University. Waterloo Lutheran University's seminary and theological programs continued to be offered by the affiliated Waterloo Lutheran Seminary which now known as Martin Luther University College.

Campuses-

WATERLOO

Wilfrid Laurier University’s 16,000 graduate and undergraduate students, are enrolled at our Waterloo campus. This campus is home to Faculties in Arts, Music, Science, Education, Graduate Studies and the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics. Laurier is a leading force in research among Canadian universities, and many research centers and institutes are situated on this campus.

BRANTFORD

Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus is the latest outdoor adventure. The campus is home to more than 3,000 students. The campus serves faculties of Liberal Arts and Human and Social Sciences.

KITCHENER

Wilfrid Laurier University’s Lyle S. Hallman Faculty of Social Work program is housed in a fully renovated century-old building in downtown Kitchener. Around 300 graduate students are enrolled in the heart of the downtown area, and is near Laurier’s Waterloo campus.

TORONTO

Since 1999, the Wilfrid Laurier University’s Lazaridis School has offered graduate programming in the financial district of Toronto. Every year more than 250 MBA and MFin candidates are enrolled in one of the “part-time alternate weekend programs,” located at Vantage Venues.

YELLOWKNIFE

Wilfrid Laurier University has a research office in Yellowknife as part of its research partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories. The office was opened in 2017, which allows researchers associated with the partnership to be based out of the Northwest Territories full time. This campus allows year-round field research and the ability to foster closer relationships with local government and community organizations. The Yellowknife office also provides events such as field courses for Laurier and local students, as well as other community indulging activities.

Initial Study Permit

All Wilfrid Laurier University students need to have legal status in Canada, and you will need to present your status documents to get your student card. If this is your first time applying for a study permit, you can do it at the nearest Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. You can apply for your permit as soon as you receive your Offer of Admission from the University of Toronto and decide to accept. Because the permit legally entitles you to study in Canada, you will need it before you enter the country.

Temporary Resident Visa

Students from certain countries may also require an entry visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), to enter Canada. TRVs are issued by Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC).

CIC’s requirements may differ depending on your specific geographic region. For instance, some CIC offices require proof of English language proficiency in the form of a standardized test (such as TOEFL or IELTS). A medical examination and proof of funding may also be required.
