Xian Jiaotong University History

Xian Jiaotong University is one of the oldest universities in China under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China. It was founded in 1896 in Shanghai and renamed Jiaotong University in 1921.

Xian Jiaotong University schools and colleges offer Undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral degrees in areas such as science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, art, law, philosophy, and education. The courses in science and engineering are of major emphasis. The researching faculties focus on increasing student innovation and talent cultivation through the various projects on teaching reform.

Xian Jiaotong University has 3 campuses namely, the Xingqing campus, the Yanta campus, and the Qujiang campus. XJTU's comprises of National Key Laboratories, Research, and Innovation Centers, Affiliated Hospitals, Residential complexes, Qian Xuesen Library of 3,518 reading seats and modern psychological health education and counseling center.

Xi'an Jiaotong University has always encouraged international collaboration. Since 2000, the University has hosted 15 Nobel laureates, 1 Fields Prize winner and more than 2,000 foreign professors. The teachers and students have been abroad for research or take part in degree programs and conferences. An extensive system of scholarships and stipends and an innovation fund to support graduate students are key features of XJTU. The university has conducted bachelor’s and master’s joint programs with universities in France, the US, Italy, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and Belgium. It offers student housing facility in modern dormitories and students enjoy a wide variety of dishes in the dining.
