The ZHAW offers a generous and modern infrastructure across its three locations. The ZHAW School of Engineering provides students with state-of-the-art infrastructure and a learning environment with computer workstations and well-equipped laboratories. All students are issued with a Campus Card, which serves as identification for cash-free payment in the canteen and copy center as well as providing access to buildings. Each student receives a personal email account, a personal web folder, access to the ZHAW network via individual network connections in all teaching and work rooms, and access to Intranet and Internet. There are many wi-fi hotspots at the ZHAW, ensuring that students can always access the Internet. Students also receive discounts when purchasing notebooks, pocket calculators and accessories in the Techshop. The university provides access to various study aids and resources such as VPN, Switch Drive, Switch File Sender and Eduroam for studying at home or while travelling. The physical and technical infrastructure are of a high standard, supporting and facilitating the university in achieving its strategic goals and maintaining a competitive advantage. The ZHAW also uses EventoWeb, where students can find all relevant information about their studies, including transcript of records, performance overview, module enrolments, grades, ECTS credits earned, and the timetable.

Student Support

The ZHAW provides comprehensive student support services to ensure academic success and personal wellbeing. The ZHAW counselling team is on hand to provide quick and uncomplicated support in successfully organising studies or in dealing with difficult situations. If necessary, the team can put students in touch with an external confidential support center, which provides free and confidential support. The Psychological Counselling Service at the ZHAW supports students and employees in dealing with challenges in their personal and professional lives, and can be reached by phone at +41 58 934 83 30 or via email at [email protected]. The ZHAW is committed to supporting refugees and prospective students so that they can start, continue or extend their studies. Students with their own business ideas receive personal support through a tailored mentoring program, with the opportunity to continue being supported by ZHAW and its mentors even after completing their studies. The ZHAW School of Engineering offers free and confidential counseling in a wide range of situations, whether students are dealing with academic challenges, applying for specific academic accommodations in examinations, or going through personal crises and conflict situations. The Diversity Unit is responsible for institutional diversity and inclusion management at the ZHAW and works closely with the Schools. The International Office also organizes a buddy program and tandem offer for exchange students.

Student life at the ZHAW is vibrant and engaging, with numerous opportunities for social interaction, personal development, and cultural enrichment. All students automatically become members of ALIAS, the ZHAW students' union, which organizes regular parties and events such as poker week. The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is a Europe-wide student organization that actively promotes international exchange, and the local ESN Winterthur group enhances the study abroad experience for international students by organizing a full range of leisure activities throughout the semester with excursions, regular meetings, and parties. The ZHAW offers a wide range of sporting activities through the Academic Sports Association Zurich (ASVZ), with over 120 different sports available in Winterthur, Zurich and Wädenswil. Students can benefit from an extensive infrastructure with modern sports equipment and knowledgeable, professional supervision. The Student Diversity Commission, with its three intersections Q+, ZHAWoman and BIPOC, serves as the student contact point for diversity issues and creates awareness. Housing facilities (Accommodation)

The ZHAW assists students in finding accommodation near the campuses. The SWOWI club, a student organisation, assists students in finding a flat near the campus. While the ZHAW does not operate its own student dormitories, the university provides guidance and support to help students secure housing in the surrounding areas of Winterthur, Zurich and Wädenswil. Students can access various resources and networks to find appropriate accommodation, including private rentals, shared apartments, and student housing cooperatives. The university's International Office also provides support for international students in finding accommodation before they arrive in Switzerland. The three ZHAW locations are well-connected by public transportation, making it convenient for students to live in various parts of the region and commute to campus.

Student Safety

Student safety is a top priority at the ZHAW, with comprehensive measures in place to protect the personal integrity of all students and employees. At the ZHAW, there is zero tolerance for inappropriate behaviour such as discrimination, violence, bullying and sexual harassment. This is regulated in the ZHAW's "Regulations on the Protection of Personal Integrity". The university has established a Code of Conduct that ensures a safe and respectful environment for everyone. The ZHAW Emergency app provides employees, lecturers, students, external staff and guests with the most important information and phone numbers so that they can act quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. Buttons for alerting emergency numbers and internal university alarms are integrated directly into the app, and registered users are informed directly via the app in the event of an emergency. Separate functions are provided for evacuation and operational emergency responders. The Diversity Unit takes the duty of care and support towards all staff and students seriously and works closely with the Schools on institutional diversity and inclusion management. The university also provides a 24-hour emergency number for immediate assistance.

The ZHAW provides extensive career support services to help students transition successfully from studies to professional life. ZHAW Career Services offers advice on a wide range of topics, such as career entry, job applications, and career planning. The Career Services website provides access to a job platform where students can upload their CV for potential employers to see, and find out about career counseling services and upcoming events. Students are qualified for careers in research and development divisions, production, logistics, consulting, and public institutions, and are able to assume responsibility for managing interdisciplinary projects. The degree programmes prepare students for careers requiring additional technical qualifications. The university's strong links with industry and the public sector, with over 1,600 research projects (a third carried out with companies in the canton of Zurich), create direct pathways to employment. Students with entrepreneurial ambitions receive personal support through a tailored mentoring program, with the opportunity to continue being supported by ZHAW and its mentors even after completing their studies. The Internationalisation@home initiative helps students develop foreign language skills, intercultural competencies and an open mind to succeed in today's job market. ZHAW graduates remain employed in their chosen profession to a very high extent five years after graduation, with 46% hired by an employer in one of the three ZHAW locations.
