Zurich University of Arts was established in 2007. It is the largest arts university located in Zurich, Switzerland. 

University History

In 2007 Zurich the University of Arts was established. The university was established with the merger between Zurich's School of Art and Design and the School of Music, Drama, and Dance. The university is one of the four universities affiliated to Zurcher Fachhochschule.

Cantonal Grants

Have you already submitted an application for a cantonal grant? Application advice is available from the canton in which your parents have their legal domicile. See below for a list of all grant awarding bodies. If you have come to Switzerland only for educational purposes, you are not eligible to apply for Swiss grants and scholarships. Please seek funding advice and information about grants in your home country. If you a German citizen, you may apply for an international BAföG grant.

Fee waivers

In cases of financial hardship, tuition fees may be waived partially.
Waivers are granted from the 1st semester of study and are valid for two semesters for students of a ZHdK Bachelor’s or Master’s program. Excluded from this are students who already hold a degree at the Master’s level. Applications may be submitted twice yearly.

Given the notorious shortage of affordable housing in Zurich, you are advised to make your accommodation arrangements well in advance of starting your course at ZHdK. Information on housing offers can be found in our information sheet.
Please beware of fraudulent accommodation offers. Check offers carefully before transferring a deposit or making rent payments. Should you experience any difficulties or problems, please contact the tenants association.

Important information for our international students

Future international students from an EU/EFTA country are required before start of the study to submit their residence permit applications directly to their place of residence in Switzerland. (PDF check list).

Future international students from a non-EU/EFTA country must – as soon as they receive the confirmation of the study place – submit a consular application for a student visa «D» in person to the Swiss Embassy or Consulate responsible for their place of residence. Visas are issued within approximately 3 months and the fee is CHF 95
Without obtaining your visa «D» prior to departure, you will be unable to enter Switzerland. (PDF check list and Finma list).

Zurich University of Arts keeps safety a priority. University’s Police Department provides 24/7 assistance to deter crime and to increase personal safety and building security. A security desk is located in the lobby of each residence hall, which assists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to ensure the safety and identification of those entering and leaving the campus buildings. Students can call an officer to escort them anywhere on campus 24/7. The University is committed to providing a safe, secure living and learning environment for all students, faculty and staff.
