Queen’s University of Belfast, History
Queen’s University Belfast was earlier known as Belfast Academical Institution which was established in 1810.Queen’s University first chartered in 1845 but opened four years later in 1849.The University was one of the only eight United Kingdom universities to hold a parliamentary seat in House of Commons at Westminster till 1950. The University was also represented in the Parliament of Northern Ireland between 1920 and 1968.

Queen’s University of Belfast, Campus
There are three main campuses of Queen’s University of Belfast that are –
- Lanyon Building – The University has more than 250 buildings. The Lanyon Building opened in 1849 and is named after its architect Sir Charles Lanyon. The Lanyon building is the centerpiece of the whole campus. It includes the Great Hall, Black and White Hall, Canada Room, The Hamilton Room, Naughton Gallery with University’s Silver Collection.
- Whitla Hall – It is locate in the main University campus building adjacent to the Lanyon Building.
- The Graduate School
Other than the main campus the University has two associate University Colleges that are St. Mary and Stranmillis which are located in west of the city.

- Elms BT1 – It is available at just a 1500m walk from Queen’s main campus. It is available to all students. University provides it on a contract basis. The cost of living here is about 124 Euro pounds per week.
- Elms BT2 – It is available at just 1200m walk from Queen’s campus. It is also available to all students. The cost of living here is 124 pounds per week.
- ElmsBT9 – It is built for the first year undergraduate students. The cost of living here is 110 pounds per week.
- College Gardens – It is opposite to the main University buildings. It is available to all students. The cost of living here is 85 pound per week.
- Malone Road – Located near Elms Bt9. It is a traditional property on Leafy Malone road.
- Grant house – It is a no alcohol residence available to all students and the cost of living here is 110 pounds per week.
- Mount Charles – It is for those students who want an independent lifestyle. It is available to only postgraduate students. Cost of living here is 85pounds per week.
- Willow Walk – It is built mainly according to the needs of the international and postgraduate students. Cost of living here is around 125 pounds per week.
- Guthrie House – It is most suitable for the undergraduate students. It has many facilities like Wi-Fi and Laundry.

CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
There are many sporting clubs and over hundred non sporting clubs that are recognized by the Students Union Council. The oldest society of Queen’s University is Literary and Scientific Society. The University’s Mountaineering Club is famous for producing three Everest summiters.
CULTURAL LIFE
The Queen’s University annually hosts Belfast festival since 1961. It also has a Queen’s Film Theatre as Northern Ireland’s leading independent cinema. It also has a museum called as Naughton Gallery. The Noughton Gallery was awarded The Times Higher Award for Excellence and Innovation. The International Students Society holds the annual Cultural Shock Event at Whitla Hall. The Queen’s University also hosts the largest showcases of international culture in Northern Ireland.
SPORTS AND FITNESS
Queen’s University has a Physical Education Centre. It is one of the largest sport centres in the British Isles. This building has squash courts, climbing walls and has basketball grounds. The Queen’s University also has a University Playing Fields which has pitches of Rugby, Football, Hockey, and Cricket and there are three netball courts, nine tennis courts and a Mary Peters track. It also has a Football association and Queen’s University Belfast Boat Club.

GENERAL ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Queen’s University demands following requirements -
- GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or an equivalent qualification must be offered.
- Level 2 Essential Skills in Communication of grade C/4 in English Language for international students whose first language is not English.
- GCE/GCSE qualifications passes in the General Certificate of Secondary Education as follows-
- Passes in at least five subjects, two of which should be at A- level or
- Passes in at least four subject of which three should be A- level.
- Two As- level will not be acceptable in place of A- level

The Great Scholarships for Egyptian Students is awarded to full time students pursuing MSc Net Zero Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast.
Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines:

- Should be a full time students pursuing MSc Net Zero Engineering at the university.
- Should be a citizen or permanent resident of Egypt
