For creating an AI model to address a challenge that has existed for fifty years—predicting the intricate architectures of proteins—Sir Demis Hassabis was granted the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. They were able to anticipate the structure of almost all of the 200 million proteins that researchers have discovered using their AI model, AlphaFold2.
