Need-blind universities in the USA

Posted on: July 19, 2022

While scrolling through the internet you must have come across some universities called 'need blind universities.' Ever wondered what those are and why do they use this term? Need blind universities are those universities that don't consider a student's financial status during the admission process of the student. This helps students from all backgrounds to be able to apply freely in the university and not worry about the competition of the limited numbers of scholarship seats that the university has to offer. Currently there are eight need blind universities in the US including Bowdoin University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, Dartmouth College, and Amherst College. So if a candidate is found eligible for the admission, he/she is granted the admission irrespective of their financial ability. No merit scholarships are awarded, only need based scholarships are given after a careful assessment of the family background and history.
