Purdue University has announced that it will be welcoming 20 scholars from Ukraine whose everyday lives have been displaced due to the war. The university will also allow spouses and children along with the scholars. They will be allowed to resume their academic prospects at the university. The program is anticipated to last at least a year. Eligible people include scholars with faculty positions at Ukrainian universities and scholars enrolled in Ukrainian doctoral programs who are at the dissertation research stage of their degree programs. Every scholar will have a tenure track faculty sponsor who will provide the necessary guidance.
The process for applying for Common University Entrance Test 2022 will start on April 2 for undergraduate programs. To fill out the application, candidates have to log on to cuet.samarth.ac.in. The CUET (UG) -2022 will be conducted in Computer Based Test mode. The portal will be open from 2nd April to 30th April. CUET will consist of four sections in which Section I-A will consist of questions related to comprehension. Section I-B will have similar questions as well. Section II will consist of 27 domains out of which 6 have to be chosen by the candidate. The questions will be based on the syllabus of class XII. Section III is about general knowledge where 60 out of 75 questions have to be answered by the students.
In a recent survey done on 1087 students across 100 countries, around 84% of them said that they would want more students from their native countries to come study in the USA. 49% agreed that the US degrees offer a return as much as their cost. 41% of the students were interested in staying back and working in the US itself before moving back to their respective countries or shifting elsewhere. 71% of the students said that they would like to stay back in the US if the work conditions were better after the post-graduation. The report also looked into the usefulness of the help centres for students in universities and 53% of the students found them helpful.

Brunel University has partnered with tech giant Meta along with the Cambridge University to explore the potential of Virtual Reality and Metaverse and also how it can be made more accessible to disabled and old people. Virtual world has been the buzz for quite a lot of time now. It mostly consist of games, personal avatars and personal content with can be customized accordingly. Virtual Reality became a thing during the pandemic when people couldn’t go out and that is when people switched to the virtual form of entertainment. Travis Scott performed virtually in the game fortnite and so did many other artists. The project will start in June and continue till July 2025.
The Saudi Aramco Oil Co. has given $10 million sponsorship to Rice University’s Carbon Hub which is developed for the purpose of creating sustainable uses of hydrocarbons. Carbon Hub was launched in 2019 and supports a future which consists of clean Hydrogen energy and carbon materials which are created efficiently and sustainably. The collaboration is a five year commitment. Carbon Hub provides guidance and funding to basic level science, engineering and policy research. The products created are used in textile, construction and food industry. Both the big names extended their gratitude regarding the project and said that they are looking forward to the wonderful changes it will bring for the betterment of the society.
University of Chicago has announced that it will be launching a new department of Race, Diaspora and Indigeneity. It was created after a voting among the university’s Department of Social Sciences where 83% of the members supported the decision. The creation of the faculty is the outcome of the years of collective work. The department will help in the better of understanding of the creation of race and its outcomes on the human species. Initially the university plans on launching an undergraduate program and then eventually adding master’s and doctoral programs in the future.
University of Chicago will be offering full tuition aid to students and scholars from Ukraine who have been affected due to the war. Other than this extra financial help will be offered to students from economically weaker backgrounds. Extra college preparedness lessons will be given to students through virtual assistance. Students will be given fellowships and those students who were in the middle of their courses will be able to complete their education in 150 other institutes through coalition for college app.
Georgetown’s University’s Centre on Education and the Workforce has ranked 4500 colleges on the basis of their return on investment. According to the report graduates of 1233 postsecondary earn less than a high school graduate. Although this may be a cause of low graduation rate or disparity in earnings because of gender or race. The ranking was based on enrollment rate, admission fees, student debt and graduation rate etc. The return on the investment was done on the basis of a period of 10years, 15years, 20years, 30years and 40years. Harvard University ranked 133rd in the nation under the 10year period category and 45th under the 40 year category. Top position was taken by the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy IN St Louis followed by Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences MCPH University.
As the undergraduate courses resume offline for the first time since 2019, the interest for the summer program among students is very high. Due to the ongoing war like situations between Russia-Ukraine UNESCO expressed its worry regarding the lack of quality and continuity of education. As war and violence tend to put a break on the exchange of education, UNESCO has stated that teachers have to be trained to get acquainted with these situations. Teachers shall be prepared to teach in extreme circumstances to ensure the continuity of education for students. UNESCO said that usually teachers not prepared for such crisis. Parties representing Ontario’s 24 public colleges and around 16000 unionized staff have agreed to come back to the negotiating table with the Ontario College Faculty. Students have been facing a lot of problems due to the ongoing strike which is going on since last September. Settlements have been tried to achieve but no solution has been made. The staff has threatened to return to strike if their demands are not met.
Alberta will be now introducing a new curriculum that is based on the age and needs of the student. The curriculum will be introduced to students from kindergarten to class 3 and they will be having a new Math and English language curriculum. It will be implemented from this September only. British Columbia decided to put down compulsory mask restrictions after the falling coronavirus cases but the state has been receiving requests to bring back the compulsion. The Safe Schools Coalition which is a group of parents and teachers have sent a letter to education officials requesting to bring back the mandatory masking policy as the spring break for children is about to end. The parents and educators seemed to be concerned about the safety of their children and want social places like schools to have at least the basic precautions. Another reason why people are worried is because of the new wave of Omicron BA.2 sub-variant. So, the state is considering the possibility to bring back mandatory masking.
Due to the growing demand for substitutes, students in their final year will be getting temporary teaching licenses. Students with the license will be able to work as substitute teachers and get paid for their working days. This way the need for substitute teachers can be cured along with giving experience and monetary benefits to students. The five universities in Nova Scotia that offer this opportunity are Cape Breton University, Mount Saint Vincent University, Acadia University and University Sainte-Anne. A total of 282 provincial students are eligible for this.
After a new report called ‘Right to Read’ was released by the commission it was found that one-third of students were graduating from school without attaining the level of literacy that the Organization of Economic Co-operation considers necessary to function in today’s economy. The province will be eliminating the three-cue system which involves guessing the written spelt words. Ontario plans on investing 25 million dollars in reading intervention programs for students. The report consists of 150 suggestions for improvement which the government will be taking into consideration.
Dh15 million have been given to the AUS by the heirs of the late Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid in honour of UAE’s first women teacher. Sheikha Nama Majid Al Qassami Endowed Chair will look after training and supporting education and research programmes and will also undertake future strengthening departments. Nama Majid is considered a pioneer in the education field in the UAE. She was the first woman to complete her high school in the UAE in 1960 after which she became a teacher.
