Auckland Institute of studies was established in 1990, It is one of New Zealand’s largest private degree-granting institutions.Auckland Institute of studies provides a wide range of NZQA-approved qualifications, including certificate, diploma, undergraduate degree, graduate diploma, and postgraduate diploma and degree programmes for domestic and international students. Auckland Institute of Studies offers a variety of courses in business, tourism management, hospitality management, information technology, and business administration. Our fast-growing MBA programme is one of the largest in New Zealand, and our English Language Centre offers qualifications in EFL, EAP, IELTS Preparation, and Business English.

History

Auckland Institute of Studies was established in 1990, in Auckland's Downtown shopping centre. It moved into the former St Helens Maternity Hospital in Mt Albert, Auckland in 1993, after converting it into a tertiary residential campus.

The Auckland Institute of Studies flexible three-semester system and cross-credit recognition allow students to fast-track their studies and to get a head start on their careers. We assist students on employment issues during and after their studies – this includes assistance with CV preparation and interview skills, job placement, and internships. Our Online Visa Office allows international students to process visas on campus.

Campus

The main campus is located in Mount Albert in Central Auckland and operates from two attractive campuses. St Helens campus is situated in a park-like setting next to Chamberlain Park Golf Course located at 28a Linwood Ave and was once the St Helens Auckland Maternity Hospital. Asquith campus is located at 120 Asquith Ave a five-minute walk away, close to St Lukes shopping centre, and with excellent transport links to the city and the central and western suburbs.

Library

The Library is located at St Helen’s Campus and provides resources, expertise, and facilities in a relaxed and friendly environment to support learning, teaching, and research. Highly qualified and experienced librarians are available to assist students and researchers in utilizing a wide range of resources including monographs, journals, online readings and ebooks, databases, specialized software, wi-fi, and multimedia. Separate study areas allow students to work individually or in groups.

For those who wish to make Auckland Institute of Studies their home in Auckland, the Auckland Institute of Studies Dormitory, a three-level building situated at the St Helens Campus, provides accommodation for 120 residents in single, twin, and multi-share rooms. The rooms are fully furnished, each with its study area.

Many students are keen to experience the New Zealand lifestyle while they are studying with us, and homestay accommodation offers an excellent opportunity to do so. Auckland Institute of Studies has an extensive list of carefully selected and approved homestay families to choose from and can arrange placement for students who wish to live in a family environment.

Transport, Landmarks, and Location

Auckland is well served for public transport and the Auckland Institute of Studies encourages the use of public transport to reduce reliance on private motor vehicles. Two main bus routes along New North Road and Great North Road are within walking distance from Auckland Institute of Studies, and the Baldwin Avenue train station is close by. Auckland Institute of Studies also provides parking at both its campuses for those who wish to drive private cars to the institute.

Visa & Immigration Support

New international students must receive an offer of a place at Auckland Institute of Studies before they can apply for a student visa, and the visa must remain current to remain to study in New Zealand. Additionally, international students must pass at least 75% of their courses, and achieve over 95% attendance, before Immigration New Zealand will accept a student visa renewal application via Provider Direct Student (PDS).Auckland Institute of Studies offers an online visa service in partnership with Immigration New Zealand for new and continuing students.New Zealand’s immigration policy supports the settlement of international students who have the skills and talent that New Zealand needs.All Auckland Institute of Studies qualifications at Level 5 and above qualify for points under Immigration New Zealand’s Skilled Migrant Category.Immigration New Zealand forms, leaflets, and information, including a link to a list of licensed immigration advisors, can be found at www.immigration.govt.nz. The Auckland Institute of Studies Student Careers Centre can offer assistance to graduates who wish to find employment in New Zealand. This assistance includes help with interview skills, CV preparation, and careers guidance, as well as information on employment consultants and useful job search websites. Contact the Student Careers Centre (located at our St Helens Campus) before the end of your program if you intend to look for employment opportunities. You will require a Post-Study Work Visa (Open) which can be applied for at Immigration New Zealand.

Employment Placement Support

Auckland Institute of Studies offers employment placement support to students who wish to gain work experience in New Zealand during and after their studies, and to students who wish to settle in New Zealand permanently. The Student Job Search Centre can help students write their CVs and Cover Letters and assist in search of employment opportunities.The SJSC also coordinates internships for MBA students (as part of the course) and for graduates who complete any Auckland Institute of Studies academic programme level 7 and above and hold a valid 12-months Post-Study Work Visa. These internships, although unpaid, are often with large multinational companies and offer valuable NZ work experience.Students enrolled in an English language course 6 months or more in duration, with an IELTS score of 5.0 or more, also qualify for employment support via SJSC.
