Bangor University has a large campus in Bangor, as well as a portion of the School of Healthcare Sciences near Wrexham. The university was founded in a historic coaching inn, the Penrhyn Arms Hotel, which housed the university's 58 students and 12 faculty members. It relocated to a much larger new structure in 1911, which is currently the historic Main Arts Building. In 1969, a new expansion on the College Road side of the building formed a quadrangle.
