Capital Medical University History

Capital Medical University also known as Capital University of Medical Sciences or CMU is a Chinese university located in Beijing. The university was established in 1960 as Beijing Second Medical College and eventually adopted the present name. The university presently enrolls 26,000 students and employs 20,000 staff.

Capital Medical University comprises of 10 schools offering a wide range of courses and programs. Some of the schools are School of Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Biomedical Engineering, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Health Administration and Education, School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Public Health and Family Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Continual Education.

Some of the subjects on offer are Neurology, Neurosurgery, Clinical Medicine, Basic Medicine, Ophthalmology, Geriatrics, Toxicology, Biomedical Engineering, Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Medical Iconography to name a few.

Capital Medical University is spread over 4 campuses located in Feng Tai District, Shun Yin District, Hai Dian District, and Dong Cheng District in Beijing, China. The university comprises of 11 affiliated hospitals which offer a range of services to students including laboratories, surgery centres, libraries, and other amenities.

Capital Medical University also offers leisure and recreational services apart from student services. The campus offers dedicated study spaces and helpdesks to assist students throughout their program.

Capital Medical University is ranked 200th in Asia University Rankings 2019 and amongst top 1000 universities in the world by Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2020. The CWUR Rankings place the university 43rd in China and 703rd globally.

Capital Medical University’s Professor Wu Jieping is one of the top urologists in the world and many of the university professors are the members of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, and six other prestigious academies.
