On October 11, 1988, the Board of Trustees established the Carthage Flame to honor exceptional service to the College and the community. The Trustees choose who gets to receive the Carthage Flame. Every flame has a sequential number and is engraved with the recipient's name and the year of the award. Not every year is the Flame given out. Only one Flame is given out each year, though they may be given out jointly.
One of Carthage College's greatest honors is an honorary degree. Honorary degrees are conferred by Carthage College on a selective basis to deserving individuals who have demonstrated exceptional performance and distinction in an area of study or activity aligned with the college's mission.
Third place nationwide was achieved by the Carthage Pre-Law Student Club in the Don Hutson Outstanding Pre-Law Chapter Awards.
Rewarding exceptional civic leadership in the development of better communities is the Carthage "New Town" Award. The College strives to support a robust and healthy social order, coexists in symbiotic relationships with its neighbors, and greatly benefits from the vibrant regional environment. Carthage's goal is to develop its students' human greatness so they can become responsible members of society and free individuals. Thus, it makes perfect sense for the College to recognize those whose civic leadership serves as an example for others.
