Chatham University's history started in 1869 as the Pennsylvania Female College. Reverend William Trimble Beatty founded it. Pennsylvania College for Women was renamed in 1890 and Chatham College in 1955. It gained University status and power in 2007 from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and was renamed Chatham University.
