University History

King William third and Queen Mary second founded the University in 1693 by issuing the letters patent. College of William and Mary or W&M or William and Mary is a leading public research University. The University was a royal college from 1776 then turned into a private college and after 1906 it served as a public research University.

Campuses

The University is expanding over 1200 acres of land in Williamsburg, Virginia. Williamsburg is the main campus of the institution. The Sir Christopher Wren Building is the oldest structure of the main campus. Gloucester Point is the campus where the School of Marine Science is located, it is at the mouth of the York River. Virginia Institute of Marine Science is the leading marine research center of the U.S. The campus has a modern classroom, stadium, cafeteria, libraries, residences, market stores, and many more.

The primary health services of the University include allergy injections, physical examination, vaccination, treatment of physical and mental illness, travel medicine, & pharmacy. Student Safety

W & M has a Police Department on campus that is certified. The department is open 24/7 for the students. The residence halls are accessible only with cards, only authorized members can access the halls & another area on campus. The University has installed 65 emergency call boxes and CCTV on campus. Williamsburg is quite a peaceful area. It has a crime rate of 0.7 over 1000. It is the 7th safest city in Virginia.
