Coppin State University’s campus infrastructure includes a range of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational buildings. The Grace Hill Jacobs Office/Classroom Building was constructed in 1977 and houses the School of Business and the School of Graduate Studies, providing classrooms, a large lecture hall, academic support, computer labs, and other facilities. The James Weldon Johnson Auditorium Building, constructed in 1972, houses a 1,000-seat auditorium, classrooms, offices for faculty and staff, music rooms, and an art gallery. The Percy Julian Science Building, constructed in 1967 and renovated in 1989, houses science programs. The Physical Education Complex was completed in Spring 2010 and provides 148,275 NASF/246,359 GSF with comprehensive indoor and outdoor facilities, including a basketball arena with 4,100 seats, an eight-lane competitive pool, aerobics and weight training rooms, classrooms, laboratories, auxiliary gyms, dance studios, racquetball courts, and a weight training/fitness center. Outdoor features include an outdoor track, multipurpose soccer field, Margaret Peters Tennis Complex, and softball field. The university has also implemented a campus-wide E911 system that delivers precise emergency response locations to 911.
The Office of Campus Life oversees the Royal Court, Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, National Pan Hellenic Council, and the National Society of Leadership and Success, as well as many registered student organizations. The college experience is more than classes and classrooms, and Campus Life supports student- and university-led initiatives so students can stay engaged, have fun, and provide learning opportunities outside of the classroom. With over 80 clubs and organizations, there is something for everyone, including club, organization, sorority, or fraternity opportunities. Annual events include Welcome Week, Clubs & Organizational Fairs, Homecoming, I Love Coppin Week, Royal Court Showcase and Coronation, and Spring Fling. The International Student Club started in Spring 2014 as a safe space for students to come together to share their different languages, customs, cultures, and countries. For U.S.-based students interested in practicing another language or learning about another culture, the International Student Club is a welcome place to understand more about the world.


The Center for Career Excellence in the College of Business at Coppin State University strives to empower and engage students to successfully explore possibilities, identify their strengths, interests, and values, gain real-world business experiences, build social capital, and leverage career readiness strategies for pursuing diverse career paths. The center’s mission is to help students manage their career decision-making, with a vision of offering a diverse blend of career education options and experiential learning opportunities for students to be thoughtful, reflective leaders and socially responsive global citizens. Career and Professional Development offerings include resume and cover letter development, job and internship search strategy, personal branding, interview prep, mock interviews, networking, career events, career exploration and discovery, graduate school prep, and career planning. These free career readiness training programs are exclusively for College of Business majors. Career and Professional Services helps students and alumni build professional connections and develop the skills needed to transform studies into the career they want, offering programs and services that help identify interests and career goals, learn industry trends, and connect employers, students, and alumni for professional opportunities. The below information is required while
completing the university application :
1. First-year applicants must have a high school GPA equivalent to a C or better.
2. This applies to full-time and part-time students who completed high school within three years of the intended start term.
3. Students may submit official SAT or ACT scores; however, Coppin is test-optional, and applicants who do not submit scores are reviewed based on academic records and other required materials.
4. Students must earn a high school diploma or state-approved equivalent before enrolling.
5. The required high school program includes: 4 years of English; 3 years of biological and physical sciences, completed in at least two subject areas, including two laboratory courses; 3 years of social science or history; 4 years of mathematics, including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II; and 2 years of a foreign language or approved Advanced Technology Education electives.

Admission to Coppin State University is offered to applicants whose academic preparation and personal qualifications demonstrate the ability to succeed. The university follows policies established by the Board of Regents and the University System of Maryland and does not consider race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, marital status, disability, or veteran status when making admission decisions. Prospective students must submit the online admissions application. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with priority deadlines of December 1 for spring admission and March 1 for fall admission. First-year applicants must have a high school GPA equivalent to a C or better, and Coppin is test-optional, meaning applicants who do not submit SAT or ACT scores are reviewed based on academic records and other required materials. For graduate admissions, the Graduate Admissions Committee makes admission decisions for master’s and doctoral programs. Requirements include an application for admission, official transcripts from all institutions attended, three letters of recommendation, and official GRE or PRAXIS scores if required. The GRE school code is 5122 and the PRAXIS code is RA5122.

Although not the first HBCU to start an esports team, Coppin is the first HBCU to invest and build a dedicated space on campus for its esports team and program. The Premier Esports Lab was launched in Fall 2021, placing Coppin State University at the forefront of esports in HBCU athletics.
Coppin State University received the prestigious EDUCAUSE Award for Innovation in Network Technology, becoming the first school in Maryland to receive the award and the first HBCU to ever be selected. This recognition honored Coppin's innovative use of technology to enhance campus network infrastructure and student services.
Coppin launched its Premier Esports Lab in Fall 2021, making it the first HBCU to invest and build a dedicated space on campus for its esports team and program. The lab was launched as part of the introduction to esports on campus, with Coppin hosting a stop on the HBCU-MEAC Takeover with Grammy-nominated artist Cordae.
