Coppin State University’s campus infrastructure includes a range of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational buildings. The Grace Hill Jacobs Office/Classroom Building was constructed in 1977 and houses the School of Business and the School of Graduate Studies, providing classrooms, a large lecture hall, academic support, computer labs, and other facilities. The James Weldon Johnson Auditorium Building, constructed in 1972, houses a 1,000-seat auditorium, classrooms, offices for faculty and staff, music rooms, and an art gallery. The Percy Julian Science Building, constructed in 1967 and renovated in 1989, houses science programs. The Physical Education Complex was completed in Spring 2010 and provides 148,275 NASF/246,359 GSF with comprehensive indoor and outdoor facilities, including a basketball arena with 4,100 seats, an eight-lane competitive pool, aerobics and weight training rooms, classrooms, laboratories, auxiliary gyms, dance studios, racquetball courts, and a weight training/fitness center. Outdoor features include an outdoor track, multipurpose soccer field, Margaret Peters Tennis Complex, and softball field. The university has also implemented a campus-wide E911 system that delivers precise emergency response locations to 911.

    Student Support

    Coppin State University provides a number of services and activities designed to meet students’ total needs for personal and academic growth and development. The Eagle Achievement Center provides holistic support and wrap-around services from New Student Orientation all the way through career and professional success after Coppin. The mission of the Eagle Achievement Center is to help Coppin students reach their goals through centralized support, advising, strategic communications, data-informed interventions, peer support programs, tutoring, academic resources, and events. The center is located on the 4th Floor of the Library and can be contacted at [email protected] or 410-951-3586. The Center for Counseling and Student Development is a safe place for students to work on any issues that are creating distress or interfering with their academic success. Students can access tutoring, writing assistance, and academic coaching through Student Support Services, and on-demand assistance is available 24/7 through tutor.com, free to all Coppin students and accessible in every section of Blackboard. The Our House Mentoring Program is a peer-led program offered by the Eagle Achievement Center, serving as a support network for first-year Coppin State University students, with Peer Mentors guiding students through their first-year experience.

      Student Life

      The Office of Campus Life oversees the Royal Court, Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, National Pan Hellenic Council, and the National Society of Leadership and Success, as well as many registered student organizations. The college experience is more than classes and classrooms, and Campus Life supports student- and university-led initiatives so students can stay engaged, have fun, and provide learning opportunities outside of the classroom. With over 80 clubs and organizations, there is something for everyone, including club, organization, sorority, or fraternity opportunities. Annual events include Welcome Week, Clubs & Organizational Fairs, Homecoming, I Love Coppin Week, Royal Court Showcase and Coronation, and Spring Fling. The International Student Club started in Spring 2014 as a safe space for students to come together to share their different languages, customs, cultures, and countries. For U.S.-based students interested in practicing another language or learning about another culture, the International Student Club is a welcome place to understand more about the world.

Living Learning Communities enhance the experience by joining specialized communities including Honors for high-achieving students, Nursing for nursing majors, ROTC focused on leadership and teamwork, and Gender-Inclusive Housing as a welcoming space for all gender identities. Campus-connected living communities include six vibrant downtown residences within a 3-mile Eagle Express loop, with shuttle rides taking just 8–15 minutes and rates matching on-campus housing.

          Student Safety

          The safety and security of Coppin students, faculty, staff, and visitors is the highest priority. The Coppin State University Police Department is committed to creating and maintaining a safe campus environment, and communicating safety protocol and standards to all Coppin stakeholders. In addition to campus-wide communication through campus email, Coppin uses Blackboard Connect to send text alerts and SMS messages for campus notifications about urgent information about the safety and/or welfare of the campus community, notices about campus delays and closings, and time-sensitive alerts about registration, financial aid, and enrollment. Coppin has implemented a well-planned, carefully executed, and rigorously tested campus-wide E911 system that delivers precise emergency response locations to 911, and the Coppin State University Police Department will simultaneously receive an emergency alert with the building and location when any person dials 911 from any campus phone. The university has also upgraded its safety and security measures by providing blue light emergency phones and state-of-the-art PTZ cameras on campus. Campus officials use communications systems to make sure everyone has the most up-to-date information about campus closings, delays, emergencies, and other important happenings, and students are encouraged to put their current phone number in the EagleLINKS system.

Career and Professional Development offerings include resume and cover letter development, job and internship search strategy, personal branding, interview prep, mock interviews, networking, career events, career exploration and discovery, graduate school prep, and career planning. These free career readiness training programs are exclusively for College of Business majors.
