International students at Delta State University can participate in Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows F-1 students to work in the United States for up to 12 months after graduation in a position directly related to their field of study. The university currently has 22 students participating in post-completion OPT. Additionally, STEM-eligible graduates may apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, providing up to 36 months of total work authorization after graduation.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is a temporary work authorization for F-1 students to gain practical experience related to their major while still studying. Students at Delta State University can use CPT during their academic program, but if a student completes 12 months or more of full-time CPT, they will no longer be eligible for OPT after graduation. Students should plan their internships wisely and consult with International Student Services to ensure they maintain eligibility for post-completion work authorization.
