Federal University of ABC History

Founded in 2006, the Science and Technology Focus of ABC Federal University (UFABC), based in Sao Paolo, Brazil. It contains three values - interdisciplinarity, excellence, defined as rigor, and creativity and social inclusion. UFABC is the only institution in Brazil that only hires Ph.D. academics. In 2011, UFABC was the country's only university with an impact factor above the world average in scientific publications. The university is involved in research with the Large Hadron Collider and the European Nuclear Research Organization, collaborating with, among other research institutes, the Max Planck Institute, Paris Sud 11 University, the Australian National Acoustic Laboratories and the National Institute for Materials Science in Japan.

Federal University of ABC? Programs, Courses, and Schools

Students can choose from two first BA programs - either a Bachelor of Science and Technology or a Bachelor of Science and Humanities.They can choose about half of the courses, and they must take the other half of the compulsory classes. They can then pursue another more specialized undergraduate or graduate degree or join the workforce. The university offers internships in more than 100 businesses including IBM, Nestlé, Globo, General Motors, Ford, Siemens, Honda, Sun Microsystems and Pirelli.

Federal University of ABC Campuses

The spaces of UFABC are located in Santo Andre and Sao Bernardo do Campo across the ABC region, the Brazilian capital's industrial belt. Both are made up of six blocks and parking, the first with a constructed area of 96,409.03sqm and the second is still in the final phase. Its laboratories cover an area of 825m2, while the Multiuser Experimental Center (CEM), which is used by researchers, associated institutions and industries, covers a total area of 520m2. Among other physical spaces, the University also has three centers and two interdisciplinary centers, two libraries and a sports complex.

UFABC is Brazil's only federal university with 100 percent of its professors holding Ph.D. and emerged as the only university in Brazil with an impact factor in scientific publications above the world average for the second consecutive year in 2011, according to SCImago Institutions Rankings.
