Application & Fee

Submit the online application. 

Pay a non-refundable application fee (≈ US $35 for most programs) 

High School Diploma / Equivalent

Must have a high school diploma from an accredited school, or equivalent (GED), with required academic units. 

Certificates of completion are not accepted. 

Core Academic High School Coursework

Applicants must complete units in these subjects:

English (4 units, must include substantial writing) 

Mathematics (4 units; Algebra I or higher) 

Natural Science (3 units; at least 2 lab sciences) 

Social Science (3 units) 

Foreign Language (2 sequential units) 

Academic Electives (2 units preferred in core subject areas) 

Standardized Test Scores

ACT or SAT scores are required (not test-optional) for freshman applicants. 

Score ranges for admitted students (middle 50%) are roughly SAT: 1080-1230, ACT: 22-27 .

Transcripts

Official high school transcript. 

If dual-enrolled or have college credit, then college transcript(s) also required. 

Minimum GPA Expectations

While FAMU does not always publish a fixed minimum for all programs, admitted freshman profiles suggest a weighted core high school GPA between about 3.69-4.24 for competitive applicants. 

Subject Requirements for Special / Limited Access Programs

Some majors (e.g. Nursing, Journalism, Pharmacy, etc.) are “Limited Access” programs; they may have additional requirements (e.g. higher GPA, prerequisite courses) or separate competitive admission. 

Essay / Personal Statement / Recommendation

Certain programs (especially engineering via the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering) require essays and may require letters of recommendation. 

Deadlines

FAMU has defined deadlines for Early Action, Regular Decision, and for supporting documents. 

International Applicants

Must satisfy English proficiency / testing (e.g. TOEFL), submit foreign transcripts (evaluated), and meet other documentation requirements.
