Bachelor’s Degree
Hold a baccalaureate (undergraduate) degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum GPA in Last 60 Credit Hours
Must have a GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) or better in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework. Some programs allow related graduate degree with similar standard.
Application & Fee
Submit a graduate application via FAMU’s Graduate Studies portal.
Pay a non-refundable application fee of US $30.
Official Transcripts
From all post-secondary institutions attended. International transcripts must be evaluated and translated if needed.
Standardized Tests
GRE scores (or GMAT, depending on program) are required in many programs. Minimum combined GRE (verbal + quantitative) score of 300 is cited in general FAQ.
English-language testing (TOEFL, IELTS) required if previous degree was not in an accredited English-instruction institution or if from non-English speaking country.
Letters of Recommendation
Usually 3 letters, attesting to academic/professional qualifications.
Personal Statement / Essay / Résumé
Required. Some programs may require a statement of purpose, portfolio, or additional materials.
Program Specific Requirements
Some graduate programs (e.g. engineering master’s) may have prerequisite courses, or require remedial or foundational coursework if undergraduate degree isn’t in a closely related field.
International Students Additional Documents
Proof of English proficiency, financial responsibility, transcripts evaluated, and immunization compliance.
Deadlines & Priority Submission
Graduate assistants / fellowships / assistantships often require applications to be complete by the priority deadline. Submissions of all documents by deadline improves chances.
