Bachelor’s Degree

Must have completed a baccalaureate (undergraduate) degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or an international equivalent. 

Minimum GPA

A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) is required, especially in the upper-division portion of the undergraduate coursework. 

Some programs (e.g. Communication, Psychology) require higher GPAs or competitive credentials. 

Application & Application Fee

Submit the graduate application via FSU Graduate School. 

Application fees apply; payment is required, and fee waivers may not always be available. 

Standardized Test Scores

GRE (or other tests depending on program) are often required. GRE/TOEFL institution codes are provided (e.g. 5219 for GRE & TOEFL). 

Some programs may waive GRE under specific conditions. 

English Proficiency Requirements

Required for international applicants whose degrees are not from English-language instruction institutions. Minimum TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent scores usually stipulated. 

Letters of Recommendation, Statement of Purpose, Resume/Writing Sample

Many graduate programs require three letters of recommendation

Statement of purpose or personal statement describing goals, research interests, fit with the program. 

Some programs may ask for writing sample or other supplemental materials. 

Program-Specific Prerequisites

Some graduate programs require relevant prior coursework, research experience, or alignment of academic background. e.g., Psychology admits those with research or lab experience. 

English Language Code & Test Submission

Must submit official test scores directly via the testing agency (GRE, TOEFL etc.), using correct institution codes.
