Housing facilities (Accommodation)

Housing facilities at HOGENT include student residences with affordable rent below the average in Ghent, located close to stations, campuses and student restaurants. All rooms are fully furnished with a single bed (mattress, duvet and pillow included), desk, chair, wardrobe, small fridge and bookshelves, with free internet access available. Residences feature cosy shared kitchens, secure bike storage, and a safe environment. The Mercator D residence offers 38 single rooms (12m²) with shared sanitary facilities, while Eddies Vesalius provides 37 recently renovated single rooms. Rental prices for the academic year 2026‑2027 are €2,420 per semester, including utilities, with a €400 deposit required, and the housing office assists students in finding both university‑managed and private accommodation options.

Student Safety

Student safety is a priority at HOGENT, with the university implementing comprehensive measures across its campuses and residences. Students are required to participate in fire and evacuation drills, and safety regulations strictly prohibit smoking, candles, incense and fireworks in rooms or residences. The university maintains camera surveillance at entry and exit points and emergency exits, with external security firms conducting preventive inspection rounds outside office hours. An emergency call centre is available 24/7 at +32 9 248 88 88, with 112 for life‑threatening situations. The university also has a zero‑tolerance policy on transgressive behaviour and encourages students to report any incidents to the confidential counsellor, while regular safety awareness campaigns keep the student community informed and prepared.
