Everything You Need to Know About Application Requirements at Houghton College

Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (or equivalent) with sufficient academic record. 

Maintain a minimum GPA requirement (e.g. for MBA, a 3.0 undergraduate GPA) to be eligible. 

Completion of prerequisite courses for certain graduate programs. For example, for the MBA: accounting, economics, and statistics courses (at the undergraduate level), each with a grade of B- or higher. 

For some graduate programs (e.g. education) a bachelor’s degree with at least a B average in the major field plus a minimum number of credits in content areas (biology, chemistry, English, mathematics, social studies, etc.). 

Submit official transcripts from all prior postsecondary institutions attended. 

Provide supporting materials: statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, résumé or curriculum vitae, writing sample (if required). (Graduate admissions pages generally expect these) 

For international graduate applicants: English proficiency proof (TOEFL / IELTS or equivalent) if prior degree was not in English. (Though not emphatically stated, standard international graduate practice applies) 

Meet any program-specific requirements or additional criteria determined by the department (for example, performance in related undergraduate courses) as part of evaluation.
