HSB provides a comprehensive student support system designed to help students from admission to graduation. The main entry point is the Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB), which offers guidance on study planning, academic difficulties, personal issues, and orientation in university life. Students can also access dedicated support for international students, studying with disabilities, financial problems, or adjusting to life in Germany. For academic and learning support, HSB offers services like writing assistance, study skills workshops, exam preparation help, and tutoring programs through initiatives such as “LernenPLUS” and “StudiumPlus.” These programs help students improve time management, research skills, and exam performance. Mental health and wellbeing are supported through the Psychological Counseling Service (PBS), which provides confidential help for stress, anxiety, and study pressure, along with group workshops for better study organization and coping strategies. For international students, the university offers FIT@HSB, which includes mentoring, language training, intercultural workshops, and career preparation programs to support academic success and integration into the German job market.

Housing facilities (Accommodation)

HSB does not have its own large on-campus hostel system, but students mainly get accommodation through the Studierendenwerk Bremen (Student Services Organization), which operates around 13 student residences across Bremen and Bremerhaven. These include furnished rooms and shared apartments with rents typically around €250–€300 per month (all-inclusive utilities), making them much cheaper than private housing.

For students near HSB, popular residential areas include Neustadt (closest to campus), Walle, and the city center, where many students live in shared flats (WG) or private apartments. The Studierendenwerk also provides assistance with housing applications, and international students can get additional help through the HSB International Office or housing platforms like AStA’s housing board.

In terms of medical and disability-related housing support, Studierendenwerk residences include accessible rooms for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, some of which are larger and adapted for special needs. These are given priority allocation and can cost up to around €350 per month depending on size and facilities. Students are usually advised to apply early and may need to submit medical documentation if requesting special accommodation.
