The Indiana General Assembly established Indiana State University as the Indiana State Normal School in Terre Haute on December 20, 1865. The first baccalaureate degrees were awarded in 1908, followed by the first master's degrees in 1928.

ISU has rolling admissions. Priority deadlines: Fall Semester: July 1 (Priority for scholarships/housing Feb 15); Spring Semester: December 1. International students have earlier deadlines.
