LTU’s campus in Luleå features robust research, teaching and student-facilities.     Automatic condition-monitoring method for railway track gear using AI

    A method developed at LTU (led by Professor Jan Lundberg and colleagues) that uses vibration sensors combined with self-learning algorithms (artificial intelligence) to automatically detect and analyse wear in railway track gear, wheel damage and track defects. The system is designed to forecast failures and enhance the reliability of railway traffic by detecting irregularities before they become serious.

    Patent solution for reducing wear at railway rail‐transitions

    A patented solution developed at LTU (via the research group JVTC) to mitigate the wear and tear that occurs at track transitions — for example where conventional ballast tracks meet concrete‐slab tracks. The invention reduces dynamic stress by smoothing the transition, thereby extending the lifetime of bridges, tunnels and rail sections used by high-speed trains.
