Luleå University of Technology is a public research university located in Norrbotten County in northern Sweden, with campuses in Luleå, Kiruna, Skellefteå, and Piteå. It was originally established in 1971 (as Luleå University College) and was granted full university status in 1997.

LTU provides comprehensive student support services which include accommodations help (via the Housing Coordinator), orientation for international students, information about student welfare and safety, and study-guidance services. Student Life

Student life at LTU benefits from its northern Swedish location and urban campus settings. The main campus in Luleå is near recreational slopes, outdoor activity areas (skiing, hiking) and cultural amenities.  Within campus buildings, students find social hubs, computer-centers in all buildings, student cafés and gym facilities described as “the largest gym in the area” for the Luleå region.

Housing facilities (Accommodation)

LTU assists students, especially international and tuition-fee-paying students, with accommodation arrangements. The university provides guidance and an email contact ([email protected]) to request housing for the Luleå and Piteå campuses, with deadlines: 31 May for autumn arrivals and 30 November for spring arrivals.  Accommodation options include university-facilitated student housing—typically furnished single rooms or shared apartments near campus. However, optionally arriving students are advised to act early because capacity is not unlimited and late applications are not prioritised.

Student Safety

LTU provides support under “Support during your studies” which includes student counselling, study coaching and assistance for students with disabilities, contributing to a broader safe study environment.  While there is no detailed public-page solely on campus security, the Student Health Service page includes instructions and link to “In case of incident or emergency” and the university staff point of contact, indicating structured procedures for safety issues.
