Lund University History

Lund University was founded in 1666. It is a public research university located in Sweden.  The University is one of northern Europe's oldest universities. The university is situated in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. The Lund University has additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, Sweden.

In 1666 Lund University was founded in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. Till the late 19th century, the university was named Academia Carolina after Charles X Gustav of Sweden as the Lund University became the widespread denomination. In 1961, the Lund Institute of Technology was established but it was merged with Lund University after eight years. In recent time, Lund University has been very popular among students for Swedish higher education institutions, both nationally and internationally as well. In 1910, Hilma Borelius was the first woman who completed a doctorate degree in Lund. In 1965, Birgitta Odén was the first woman to be appointed as a professor at Lund University, Sweden, Europe.

Lund University is a well-known university in Sweden, Europe. It is famous amongst one of the oldest universities of Europe.  Lund University was ranked 87th in the world in the 2022 QS World University Rankings. It is one of the most popular universities in Sweden for international applicants and was ranked #40th most popular international university in the world by Times Higher in 2021. The QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2021 placed Lund in the top 50 in the various subjects like: Geography (24th), Development Studies (32nd), Environmental Sciences (44th) and Nursing (47th). QS also ranked the university for business Master's and Marketing program (42nd) and for 'Finance'(47th) in 2022. Campuses

Main Campus-

Main campus of Lund University is located in the city of Lund, Sweden. The campus is just 15 minutes away by train from Malmö and less than an hour from Copenhagen which is Scandinavia’s largest city and the capital of Denmark as well. The Lund city is known for its crowded student life and academic traditions, its energetic and historical city center, and it is also a part of an innovative and entrepreneurial area.

Helsingborg Campus-

 Helsingborg Campus of Lund University has near about 4,000 students. The campus is situated in the city of Helsingborg which is one of Sweden's fastest-growing communities. The campus is in walking distance from the railway station and is 30 minutes by train to Lund city. The campus is home to the Department of Service Management and Service Studies, the Department of Strategic Communication, the School of Social Work and the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) which offers selected courses and programmes to students.

 Malmo Campus-

Malmo Campus of Lund University is located in the city of Malmo which is the third largest city in Sweden, Europe. The central station is just 15 minutes away by train from Lund and 20 minutes away from Copenhagen Airport. A large number of Lund University’s staff and students live in Malmo and come to Lund. Staff and students living in Lund frequently visit Malmo to enjoy its shops, nightclubs and cultural and sporting events for weekend getaways. The campus is home to Lund University’s Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts, also includes the Malmo Academy of Music, the Malmo Art Academy and the Malmo Theatre Academy. A major part of Lund University’s medical training and research is performed at Skane University Hospital situated in Malmo. The hospital is amongst one of the important hospitals in Sweden, and it is renowned for research and operations in various fields.

Ljungbyhed Campus- 

 Ljungbyhed campus of Lund University is nearly about an hour's drive north of Lund. On this campus Lund University School of Aviation (LUSA) offers higher education and higher vocational education, as well as commissioned education within manned and unmanned aviation to students. LUSA also performs research within the aeronautical sciences. The LUSA UAS Lab is a research building for research about unmanned aerial systems which supports both Lund University researchers and external collaboration partner researchers. Lund University School of Aviation LUSA is certified by the Swedish CAA as an Authorized Training Organization (ATO) for manned aviation as well as an Authorized Drone School (ADS) for unmanned aviation.

Visa and Immigration Support-

Individuals need to apply for an entry visa (MVV) as well as a residence permit (VVR) if they want to study in Sweden.

Short-stay visa-

For stays of up to 90 days, individuals might need a short stay visa (Visum Kort Verblijf or VKV) to enter the Sweden.

A VKV is issued as a sticker in the passport. The sticker gives information such as the expiry date of the visa, the maximum number of days anyone is allowed to stay and the countries to which they have been granted access. The VKV normally allows access to all countries in the Schengen area.

This type of visa is limited to a maximum of 90 days within a period of 180 days, which means that once you have been in the Schengen area for 90 days you may not return until another 90 days have passed.

Residence permit

If anyone wants to stay in Sweden longer than 90 days, they need to get a residence permit (VVR). The residence permit is a plastic card, about the size of a credit card. It serves as proof of your identity, nationality and lawful residency in Sweden. It allows an individual to enter and exit Sweden and travel through the Schengen area.
