The Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL) offers a modern, practice-oriented infrastructure distributed across its eight specialized schools located throughout Lisbon, providing students with facilities tailored to disciplines such as engineering, business, health sciences, education, communication, music, dance, theatre, and film. Its campuses feature smart classrooms, engineering laboratories, health simulation laboratories, multimedia studios, computer laboratories, theatres, film production facilities, music rehearsal rooms, dance studios, research centres, auditoriums, libraries, innovation spaces, and collaborative learning environments. These facilities are equipped with industry-standard technologies that support practical training, applied research, and project-based learning.
The institute's infrastructure is designed to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Students have access to high-speed Wi-Fi, digital learning platforms, computer workstations, maker and innovation spaces, research laboratories, specialized workshops, study areas, cafeterias, and student support centres. The Presidency's Common Services Centre provides centralized administrative, academic, IT, international, and career support services for all eight schools, ensuring efficient access to student resources across the institution.

The Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL) provides a comprehensive range of student support services designed to promote academic success, personal well-being, and professional development. Through its International Relations and Academic Mobility Office, the institute assists international students with admissions, visa and residence procedures, orientation programmes, academic mobility, accommodation guidance, and integration into university life. New students participate in welcome activities that help them become familiar with campus facilities, academic regulations, and living in Lisbon.
IPL also offers extensive academic and personal support through student counselling services, academic advisors, libraries, IT support, and digital learning platforms. Several of its schools provide dedicated psychological and educational support services, offering confidential counselling, mental health support, vocational guidance, mentoring programmes, workshops on study skills and personal development, and assistance for students experiencing academic or personal challenges. These services aim to enhance student well-being, encourage academic success, and support a positive university experience.
Student life at the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL) is vibrant, multicultural, and closely connected to the academic, cultural, and professional opportunities offered by Portugal's capital city. With more than 13,500 students studying across its eight specialized schools, IPL provides an inclusive environment where students from Portugal and around the world collaborate in engineering, business, health sciences, communication, education, music, dance, theatre, and film. At the beginning of each academic year, the institute organizes the Welcome IPL programme in partnership with the Academic Federation of IPL (FAIPL) and student associations, helping new and international students integrate through orientation activities, cultural performances, and social events.
Beyond academics, students can participate in a wide range of student associations, cultural festivals, workshops, seminars, artistic performances, volunteer initiatives, sports activities, and entrepreneurship programmes. The institute regularly hosts conferences, exhibitions, concerts, theatre productions, film screenings, and innovation events, reflecting the diverse disciplines taught across its schools. Students also have opportunities to engage in international exchange programmes through Erasmus+, join research and innovation projects, and develop leadership and professional skills through extracurricular activities.

The Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL) provides accommodation support through its Social Action Services (SAS-IPL), which manage student residences and assist both Portuguese and international students in securing suitable housing in Lisbon. IPL offers places in student residences located close to its campuses, although accommodation is subject to availability and demand. Priority is generally given to scholarship holders, international exchange students, and students with demonstrated financial need. The residences provide a safe and affordable living environment designed to support students throughout their studies.
The student residences offer single and shared furnished rooms equipped with essential amenities such as Wi-Fi, study areas, shared kitchens, laundry facilities, common rooms, and accessible facilities for students with disabilities. Residence fees are subsidized to make accommodation more affordable, and residents benefit from a supportive community atmosphere that encourages academic success and social interaction. In addition to on-campus and institute-managed residences, SAS-IPL provides guidance on finding private apartments, shared flats, and other rental options in Lisbon through trusted housing resources and local partners

The Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students across its eight campuses in Lisbon. The institute follows Portuguese higher education regulations and maintains comprehensive health and safety measures, including controlled access to buildings, CCTV surveillance in selected areas, fire detection and emergency evacuation systems, accessibility features, and clearly defined emergency procedures. Students receive safety information during orientation, including guidance on emergency contacts, campus regulations, and the responsible use of university facilities.
Student welfare is supported through the Social Action Services (SAS-IPL) and the Psychological and Educational Support Services (SAPE), which provide confidential psychological counselling, well-being programmes, academic support, and assistance for students facing personal or social challenges. International students also receive support from the International Relations Offices with accommodation, healthcare registration, residence procedures, and adapting to life in Portugal, helping them settle into a safe and welcoming academic environment.

The Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL) places a strong emphasis on graduate employability through practical education, internships, employer engagement, and dedicated career support rather than relying solely on traditional campus placement drives. Each of IPL's eight schools provides career and employability services that help students transition successfully into the labour market. In 2023, the institute launched the Career Center by JobTeaser, an online employability platform that connects students and alumni with employers by providing exclusive job and internship opportunities, career events, recruitment sessions, webinars, company presentations, digital career resources, and direct contact with human resource professionals. As of 2024, the platform included more than 430 registered companies, creating extensive recruitment opportunities across multiple disciplines.
IPL maintains strong partnerships with private companies, public organizations, municipalities, research institutions, and professional associations across sectors such as engineering, business, accounting, health sciences, communication, education, technology, media, and the creative industries. Many academic programmes include curricular internships, practical laboratory work, and company-sponsored projects that allow students to gain hands-on professional experience before graduation. Students also participate in seminars, workshops, employer presentations, and real-world projects led by industry partners, ensuring that their knowledge and skills remain aligned with labour market needs.
