In February 2019, a design project in the Introduction to Engineering Physics course at RMC tasked students with creating a hydraulic lift powered by mousetraps (and syringes) or a mousetrap-powered boat to understand design process, mechanics, and fluid/static equilibrium.

Supramolecular Molecular Cubes for Guest-Molecule Encapsulation

In the summer of 2018, students in the Schapiro Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program at RMC worked in Dr. John Thoburn’s chemistry lab on supramolecular cubes made of porphyrin walls and iron cation corners, which can encapsulate “guest” molecules. This research explored designing cubes that open under light activation and could hold quantum dots for oxygen sensing.
