R.J. Johns, T.O. Durin, and Otto Peters formed the Industrial Vocational Education Centre, which was the forerunner to RRC Polytech, in the mid-1930s. Manitoba Technical Institute (MTI) was established in 1948 as Manitoba's first public postsecondary vocational institution. The two parts combined in 1969 to form Red River Community College (RRCC), which was later renamed RRC Polytech in 1998 after the word "community" was removed.
