Sonoma State University’s history started in 1960 with the California State Legislature. California State College System is the parent organization of the University. After some time, it became a part of the California State University system. The University opened with the enrolment of 250 students.

Everything You Need to Know About Application Requirements at Sonoma State University

Completion of A–G (college preparatory) high school courses: 15 year-long courses with grade “C” or better. 

These include subjects such as English (4 years), Mathematics (3 years minimum), U.S. History/Social Science, Lab Science, a foreign language, arts, and electives. 

GPA and eligibility index: Applicants whose GPA in A–G courses (10th–12th grade) meets thresholds may be admitted or be assessed via a “Multi Factor Score” if borderline. 

For California residents, a 2.50 “A–G GPA” is one benchmark for eligibility. 

Self-reported transcripts initially: Applicants are allowed to self-report grades; official transcripts are required later if admitted. 

SAT / ACT: SSU is test-optional; SAT or ACT scores may be considered if submitted, but are not required. 

Out-of-state / nonresident / international applicants:

For majors not impacted, a GPA of 3.0 or higher may qualify for admission. 

For transfer applicants, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for “direct admission” for many majors. 

Applicants with GPAs between 2.5 and 2.99 may be evaluated via “Multi Factor Score.” 

Foreign / international coursework must be evaluated equivalently where required.
