The United States Military Academy (USMA), or West Point, offers several unique advantages. It does not charge any tuition or boarding fees to the cadets. Its military education includes classroom instruction, labs, summer field training, and military-related activities. Focused on developing leaders, the USMA's mission is to train cadets to be leaders of character, aligned with Army values, and ready to serve the nation. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army. As a coeducational federal service academy, it sits on a vast 16,080-acre suburban campus. All cadets graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree. Admission requires being at least 17 but not yet 23 years of age, a U.S. citizen (with exceptions for a limited number of international cadets), unmarried, not pregnant, and with no legal obligation to support children.
