How much of the program is dedicated to military training?

Military training is fully integrated throughout the 47-month experience. It includes daily military instruction, leadership labs, and intensive summer training periods at Camp Buckner and at Army units worldwide, complementing the academic and physical programs.

Does West Point offer scholarships?

Every cadet appointed to West Point receives a full scholarship that covers tuition, room, board, and medical and dental care. This is not a traditional scholarship but a commitment funded by the U.S. Army.

Are there any costs for cadets?

There are no tuition costs. Cadets are paid a monthly stipend as active-duty members of the Army, which is used to cover uniforms, books, a laptop, and other personal expenses. Any remaining stipend is kept by the cadet.

What is the financial commitment after graduation?

In exchange for the fully funded education, graduates are commissioned as Second Lieutenants and must serve on active duty in the U.S. Army for a minimum of five years, followed by three years in the Reserve Component (total 8-year service obligation).

Do international graduates need a visa to serve in the U.S. Army?

No. The small number of international cadets from partner nations are commissioned as officers in their home country's military, not the U.S. Army. They return to their home nations after graduation.

What is the service obligation for international cadets?

International cadets commit to serving as officers in their home nation's armed forces for a period specified by a bilateral agreement between their country and the United States.

Is there a path to U.S. citizenship through attending West Point?

Appointment to West Point is generally limited to U.S. citizens. There are very rare exceptions for a limited number of international cadets nominated by their own governments, and these individuals do not receive U.S. citizenship through their attendance.
