The University of Eastern Finland was established through a merger of two formerly independent universities, the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio. These ended to exist when the University of Eastern Finland began to operate in January 2010.

UEF partners with non-profit student housing companies in Joensuu and Kuopio, offering: Shared Flats: Private rooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms Single-Room Apartments: Private units with a kitchen and bathroom Family Apartments: Two- or three-bedroom flats for students with families There are no on-campus dormitories, but all housing options are located near campus or connected by public transport.
Exchange Students: Can apply for housing after receiving a Certificate of Admission. Degree Students (non-EU/EEA): Can apply after receiving their residence permit. Application: Submit an online application through the housing provider’s platform. Early application is highly recommended due to limited availability.
Joensuu: Shared room: €200–€350/month Family apartment: From €400/month Kuopio: Shared room: €260–€350/month Single apartment: From €350/month Family apartment: From €500/month Rent usually includes water, electricity, and internet.
